Interview & Challenge

Nagra Kudelski are a multinational digital tv company based in Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne and Phoenix, Arizona. They contacted and invited me for an interview due to my experienced background. After a successful first interview I was asked to come up with a concept for a new sports streaming channel Nagravision were developing.

My idea was not expected to be a finished piece but an engaging concept which could be explored. The following is my response.

Ideation

As all my ideas start, I emptied my head onto paper. My initial hypothesis was centred around the social aspect of watching your team. I wanted to explore two features;

  1. Personalised content
    Sports the user follows
  2. Groups
Where member friends can be invited to group watch

Wireframes

I thought it may be a good use of my time to show an onboarding funnel along with a 'My Groups' and 'My Sports' flows. I did not have much time to iterate so needed to work quickly.

This is the advantage of ideating onto paper beforehand. This gives me a good sense of where I'm heading

Onboarding

It was important to me to present my concept on mobile, tablet, desktop and tv. My reasoning was that the user would use these different viewports heavily.

Breakpoints

All UI's in this breakpoint sequence are responsive until they adapt to their next screen resolution

Prototype

There was little time for an expansive prototype, so I concentrated my efforts into a small flow but with dynamic smart animations.

It is always difficult to gauge where to put ones effort when faced with a design challenge as I have experienced different companies being drawn to different areas of the process.

With my hand sketched ideation, I thought this would be a balanced presentation given the time.

Outcomes

Unfortunately I wasn't successful on this occasion, however It's always a positive event when given the chance to create and deliver a short challenge like this, and there are many takeaways I took from the experience. On reflection and given the time available, I'm happy with what I produced and how I explained my ideas. I have learnt that as designers we are forever learning and moving forward and this is always my main takeaway.
